NELSON ROLIHLAHLA 'MADIBA' MANDELA: AMANDLA!

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” ~Nelson Mandela~

THE JOURNEY BEGINS TOWARDS FREEDOM:

"We are not anti-white, we are against white supremacy … we have condemned racialism no matter by whom it is professed."

'Nelson Mandela, defense statement during the Treason Trial, 1961.'

  IMPRISONMENT OF 'MADIBA' : SUMMER, 1964 ~ WINTER, 1990

"I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons will live together in harmony with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for, and to see realised. But my Lord, if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die."

'Nelson Mandela, defense statement during the Rivonia Trial, 1964. Also repeated during the closing of his speech delivered in Cape Town on the day he was released from prison 27 years later, on 11 February 1990.'

PRESIDENT NELSON 'MADIBA' MANDELA
MAY, 1994 ~ JUNE, 1999

"South Africans must recall the terrible past so that we can deal with it, forgiving where forgiveness is necessary but never forgetting"
'Nelson Mandela, on leaving office as South African president, 15 June 1999.'

PEACEFUL JOURNEY MR. MANDELA
 JULY 18, 1918 ~ DECEMBER 5, 2013

lies not in never falling,
but in rising every time we fall.

Hey Sis. Carolyn! I feel you on Madiba! You okay? You've been on my mind lately, especially since I was in TN on my long-assed drive home to TX from upstate NY! :-)

Hey, tried reading your most recent post on us "Senior," but it kept saying the page didn't exist! Hope you're well, Sis.

Peace..

@Deb..Greetings and Salutations!
Yes, I thought about your trip as well. I haven't been to upstate N.Y. in years and unfortunately, could not attend my father's funeral due to health challenges.
I am resilient and continue to improve.

Deb,I did have some concerns about Mr. Mandela's concessions to the power structure in S.A. and especially how Randall Robinson and others who fought valiantly for his freedom were treated when he visited America. However, his sacrifices were so great; it's far too complicated to reconcile canonization vs revolutionary challenges. The former is what I won't do but I respect what he did to make some changes in one of the most oppressive systems the world has known. I've provided links to 2 different views of Mr. Mandela's legacy. Please read them and give me your opinion. I respect the staff member at Black Agenda who wrote the first article 'Telling The Truth About Nelson Mandela'. I believe it's a case that many things are true at once.
The post on seniors and the holidays was in draft form and due to a glitch- it was published prematurely and I had to return it to draft form. Haven't completed it yet.
I trust all is well with you. Peace!
