I Shall Return.... (♥♥)

I'm taking that long sought after trip to a place of solitude and I plan to return refreshed late September and ready to again tackle those issues that are intriguing and challenging with more grace, courage and hopefully wisdom.  As Labor Day approaches we must focus on what that holiday truly means.  We are facing a very deliberate and calculating assault on the workers in this country and they are suffering.  Their voices were first (prominently) heard in Wisconsin and now Ohio.  As with most righteous movements; it will spread across the nation and as we fight for the workers let us not forget the poor and those who have not been treated well by happenstance.

One of my favorite poets, Lucille Clifton aptly describes my heart and mind as I cope with the realities of wanting to be heard and ageism especially in this society.  By all means...I'm not ready for the nursing home, however, the signs of how brief this existence can be have become more apparent.

There Is A Girl Inside

There is a girl inside.
She is randy as a wolf.
She will not walk away and leave these bones
to an old woman.

She is a green tree in a forest of kindling.
She is a green girl in a used poet.

She has waited patient as a nun
for the second coming,
when she can break through gray hairs
into blossom

and her lovers will harvest
honey and thyme
and the woods will be wild
with the damn wonder of it.
